Legalize Marijuana

There seems to be a major acceptance of legalizing marijuana (or at least decriminalizing it) in our society but yet no changes are made to national policy. Several states try to open the door for medical marijuana only to have the federal government intercede. First off, should marijuana be legalized? Second, should that fall under "states' rights" or should it be decided by the federal government even if the marijuana never crosses state lines?

Make it legal. It's no worse than alcohol. There's absolutely no reason for alcohol to be legal and not weed. It's like living during Prohibition. The people want it and we put the politicians in office to do what we want. Legalize it already or we'll eventually quit putting you in office.

Yes marijuana should be legal. I don't smoke it and wouldn't if it was legal but I think it should be. I think all drugs should be decriminalized. We spend way too much money incarcerating people for using drugs. It would be much cheaper to spend our time and money on education, prevention and treatment instead of locking someone up for years because because they have an addiction. Could you imagine if we locked up all the alcoholics? Half the judges and elected officials would be in jail. Lock up the traffickers of hard drugs (crack, meth, etc.) and help those that have problems. I agree with SouthernBoy's Prohibition comment. Everyone is familiar with the gang violence that took place around alcohol during Prohibition. The same thing is happening today with other drugs. Unfortunately, our elected officials will never vote for it though because there's no big industry lobbying them for it. Potheads aren't big donors.
