Constitutional Rights For Illegal Aliens

Whether it's access to health care, receiving welfare assistance, public education for their children or law enforcement policies, should illegal aliens have the same constitutional rights and access to the same public services as U.S. citizens when on American soil?

It's illegal IMMIGRANTS not aliens. They're not from another planet. They're just people trying to make a better life. Yes! They should have the same constitutional rights when in America. Are you asking whether or not the police should help a young Hispanic girl if she's been raped because she doesn't have proper documentation at the time? Or if a group of Mexican workers who have been working for 12 hours in the field has a wreck on the way home, should we just leave them in the ditch instead of taking them to the hospital? It's people like you that continue to spread hatred towards the less fortunate.

First off, I'm going to leave your reply on here because I don't believe in censorship unless it's obscene or abusive towards others. However, I'm not going to let you accuse me of spreading hate. I don't even know where that comment came from. I was simply asking the question for others to discuss.

Is it because I used the word "aliens" instead of "immigrants"? I'm simply using the technical terminology. An immigrant is an invited guest that follows immigration laws to establish permanent residency. An alien is a foreigner. An illegal alien is a foreigner who is in this country illegally. I think that's a huge jump if you're saying that I'm spreading hate by calling them aliens.

As far as the rest of your reply, I think you make some valid points although I think there's more to it than the scenarios you put forth. I make a point of not engaging too deep into my replies because the whole point of this site is to let others share their opinions, not for me to use it as a sounding board. However, I will not stand by and let someone accuse me of spreading hate when that's the farthest thing from the truth. I seriously suggest that you not be so casual with accusations of hate.

You're right. I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions. I think the question could have been worded better but after reading it again, it doesn't really endorse one view or another. It's a sensitive topic for me because I've had family members move here looking for a better life only to be harassed and treated like second rate citizens. I still don't agree with the terminology used. I think using aliens instead of immigrants implies a negative opinion but I shouldn't have gone as far as saying that you're spreading hate.

Well, thank you for that. I'm usually one of the first people to call someone else out for hate filled comments so that's why I took it very personal. I understand your position on the wording and how certain words can have negative connotations to some people. However, the purpose of this site is to create real dialogue about the issues our country faces and trying to be "politically correct" just waters down the discussion. Obviously, there are certain words and terminology that are very offensive and are typically used to spread hate and/or fear but I honestly don't see that being the case when using the term illegal aliens instead of illegal immigrants. But, I do come from a different background than you so I respect your view on it. I welcome more people to comment on this. If I'm wrong, I will certainly change my wording going forward.

If a person wants to come to America so bad, why don't they go through the proper channels? Your scenario is very hypothetical, I don't know a police officer that wouldn't help someone. A more real situation is car accidents with illegal immigrants that don't have insurance, employers hiring illegal immigrants for lower than minimum wage and taking a job away from citizens.

I have no problem with people wanting to come to America, but do it legally.
