Should Religion Be Left Out of Politics?

Both religion and politics can be sensitive subjects. Should religion be left out of the political debate and voters' election decisions or is it only natural for religious views to affect one's political views?

I definitely think religion should be left out of politics. Religious beliefs should be something that is personal and not forced on other people. I’m sick and tired of the Religious Right thinking they know what’s best for everyone else.

I don't think the "Religious Right" are trying to tell people what's best for them. I just think conservative Christians are standing up for what they think is best for themselves.

Why do people always refer to the "Religious Right"? I'm a Democrat and a practicing Catholic. I don't see why you HAVE to vote for one candidate or another based on your religious views like some people make it out to be. I've never identified with the Republican party because of how war hungry they are and because they basically want to do away with the welfare system all together. That doesn't seem very Christian to me.

I'm a Republican and I'm a Christian so I guess I'm part of the "Religious Right". I'm proud of it too. There's no way to keep your religious beliefs out of your political choices. If I'm opposed to killing innocent unborn children because of my religious beliefs, it would be impossible to vote for someone that supports abortion. It's the same with gay marriage. Our country has become morally bankrupt and it's due to the media and our government attacking Christians. It's okay for Muslims to practice their faith but as soon as one Christian kid says a prayer in school, they get expelled. No one is trying to force a religion on everyone else. What Christians are tired of is being attacked for simply trying to practice our own faith. It's time for Christians to stand up and quit letting the minority of non-believers push us into a dark corner. The government affects our daily lives and religion affects our daily lives. I don't see how you can separate the two. We should vote on our beliefs and we should quit letting the secular world silence us. It's time to quit being the silent majority. Speak up Christians! Let your voices be heard during every election.

See, this is exactly what I'm talking about. You can practice your own faith all you want. Just don't force my kids to have to see it. Kids go to school to learn not to pray. Worship all you want at home or in church but keep it out of government funded activities. My family shouldn't be forced to listen to you talk to some imaginary man in the clouds. I'm glad you brought up gay marriage, Mr. Wright. That's another perfect example of the Nazis... oops, I'm mean Christians, trying to impose their beliefs on others. Just because your book of fairy tales says it's wrong doesn't mean you have the right to butt into other people's lives. Why does it matter to you whether or not two men (or women) that love each other get married? How are they hurting you in any way?
