Flashback: John Diehl Said He Would Probably End Steakhouse Hearings

Progress Missouri |  1/26/15 5:39 PM

Appearing on the McGraw Milhaven Show on KTRS with Tony Messenger in May 2014, John Diehl said he wouldn't condone steakhouse committee hearings funded by lobbyists and that he would "probably" end the practice as speaker.  MESSENGER: We have an editorial in today's paper that focuses on the legislature’s failure to deal seriously with ethics problems and how they had another situation this week that is just another example of everything that is...

The Jake Blues excuse

Show Me Progress |  1/26/15 7:28 AM

Jake: ....Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts! It wasn't my fault, I swear to God! Kansas Governor Sam Brownback (r) [file photo]. Yesterday, in the Kansas City Star: Gov. Second House Committee To Hold Country Club "Hearing" Next Week

Progress Missouri |  1/23/15 3:55 PM

They just won't stop. This afternoon the House Telecommunications committee, chaired by Representative Bart Korman, scheduled a "hearing" for next Tuesday night at the Jefferson City Country Club.  Given that the committee doesn't have any bills assigned to it yet, it's hard to imagine that the purpose of this "hearing" is for anything but enjoying free food and drink from lobbyists like the House Utilities committee is so fond of doing.  This has...

Not the Onion: House Committee Schedules 'Hearing' At Jefferson City Country Club

Progress Missouri |  1/22/15 1:37 PM

Next Wednesday, the House Utility Infrastructure Committee, led by Representative Lyndall Fraker, plans to hold a "hearing" at the Jefferson City Country Club. Apparently the House hearing rooms in the Capitol Basement weren't nice enough for the committee to do the people's business. Sadly, this isn't a new practice in the Capitol. Last year, the House Utilities committee had two dinners at the same country club funded by lobbyists for the utility...
